1980s Easter Nostalgia

It's been an embarrassingly long time since my last blog post, but I plan on sharing more of what I've been up to (and will be up to) in my next post that I'll share soon. Today I wanted to share my latest listings, just in time for Easter!

These days most of my inspiration comes from growing up as an '80s kid in America. I'm not sure if it's just me getting older, or getting older while also living abroad for so long that's made me so nostalgic. But I must admit, I'm enjoying it! I've been filling little books with memories of my childhood, mainly around holidays (Easter, Halloween, and Christmas for now). The more I write, the more I recall.

It's filled me with SO much inspiration!

When it comes to those early Easters,  I loved waking up knowing there'd be a huge, colourfully woven plastic basket full of treats waiting for me. A colourful stuffed bunny or a big (hollow, always hollow!) chocolate bunny in a box would be center stage. Surrounding it would be lots of other candy and dyed eggs (dyed as a family the day prior, using PAAS kits, naturally), on crinkly green, cellophane grass.

Now when it came to Easter candy, Brach's was king! Their malted milk chocolate eggs, colourful candy coated marshmallow eggs, and jelly beans. Heaven. I think I enjoyed Easter candy as much as I did sweets on Halloween!

When it came to creating, instead of a colourfully woven plastic basket, I went with this paper mache' cracked egg I've had for a bit and wanted to make use of. Not very '80s, but maybe one year I'll brave making my own plastic version.

This one features a pastel stuffed bunny,  chocolate bunny in a cute box, and a few "dyed" eggs. I also created my own green cellophane grass, since that's hard to come by these days.

Now onto my spun cotton chocolate bunnies!  Those big candy eyes (typically much more colourful than mine, I stuck with black and white). And big satin bows. Everyone gets a bow! This lovely gets a pretty in pink one.

A hand holds a brown spun cotton bunny, that's wearing a pink bow. Pink and yellow ribbons and a paper mache egg sit in the light background.

When it comes to hollow chocolate bunnies..ya gotta eat an ear first. Of course I had to do the same for my spun cotton version below (sorry little guy, I always felt a bit guilty about that!). He also holds a big carrot.

Don't get me wrong, my childhood Easters also meant getting to wear my new dress to church, and Easter egg hunts, and mom's potato salad (that I make every year for myself now!), but those baskets take me back...

Do you have Easter memories that you hold dear?

You can find all three spun cotton ornaments in my Easter collection. You can also watch the Youtube Short of them coming to life on my channel.
